The Dave Hart Foundation - a Foundation extravaganza in Crafts

November 2020

We are  offering a one year training programme, giving a Foundation in Craft in a Social Environment.
We are looking for someone who is self motivated, wants to learn and will be actively engaged in the life of the workshop. It will be a practical year, hands on in the workshop, making, learning and assisting with teaching. We feel this would be an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to pursue a career with craft at its centre.
Crafts taught in the workshop (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) to include - *Woodwork , *Woodturning,  *Leather work, *Silver work, *Stained Glass, *Guitar making in the production workshop  - where you will be part of a team making guitars for sale.
Five Weekend courses  - These weekends focus on one skill and will cover*English Longbow making, * Knife making, *Green woodwork , *A weekend in the forge, *Spoon carving plus other possibilities at West Dean college and elsewhere.
In the first term we will focus on building skills. After this, learning opportunities will continue but you will be expected to start to apply and consolidate what has been learnt by helping with the teaching as an assistant during the Home Education sessions and the Mens Shed.
As well as the crafts we will teach you workshop maintenance focusing on the care of machines, sharpening, changing blades, care of the dust extraction etc. These skills will also be applied and consolidated in helping with the maintenance of the workshop.
We will also help introduce you to other crafts people and opportunities across the country to help you build a network of contacts within the craft world.
There is no financial charge for this training opportunity but we expect you to help out with the running of the workshop. The course is to be held at Nailsworth Community Workshop,  and is three and a half days a week plus at least five weekend training courses all in term time.

If you are interested in applying for this opportunity  please email pam@practicalintelligence.org.uk. Applications are open until 1st March 2021 with start date September 2021.
