Guitar making workshop
Our guitar making workshop is run by Gavin Pond who studied baroque and renaissance lute and guitar making at West Dean college. Gavin has been teaching both electric and acoustic guitar making for the last 20 years. We offer a unique opportunity to attend our fully equipped workshop to make the guitar of your dreams. As well as making an electric guitar you can make an oil can or cigar box guitar or ukulele. You can also make simple acoustic instruments such as strum sticks and appellation dulcimers. As far as possible we try to recycle wood that has been used before. One of the most dramatic guitars Gavin made was from an old fence and more recently a back made from an old kitchen block wood top with a front from an old desk draw.
It is also possible to come and repair, restore or personalise any instruments you may have.
It is a rolling course with new pupils starting when ever spaces become available.
Material costs for an electric guitar will start around £100 but can easily go over £500 depending on hardware and choice of wood.
The course costs £20 an afternoon plus materials and runs Mondays 1.30-4.30 in term time. Age is 16 upwards.
We have just set up a weekend opportunity to make a cigar box ukalele or guitar on May 15-17 2020 costing £295 for tuition and materials.
